Taking off to Bikingman Taiwan

After writing down my last report from Bikingman Corsica when I was flying to Canada, It seems like airpport, flights and stopover are some sort of Inspiration or maybe just the perfect bridge from one adventure to an other...


If you're expecting to read my report from the Transam America Bike Race, you'll be disappointed as this will be just a quick overview of my actual state of mind...


Trans Am was a pretty big project, in every aspect, including the "post race recovery". Physically it took me about a month to recover and two to get back to a proper training routine. Mentally, I think I'm still processing it, readjusting and finding my way in this new ultra cycling life. I believe it's also part of why I abandonned every attempt to write down a sort of report of the Transam, it opened so many doors that the story is defenitively sill on! It's also why once back in Belgium last August, I decided to register for Bikingman Taiwan! I couldn't leave all these doors open without seeing what was on the other side!


Physically, I feel super ready for the big challenge that Bikingman Taïwan represent! In a sense, the 7000km Transam race prepared me well for this, as the 1128km of non stop riding, going through approximately 20.000m of elevation doesn't stress me at all and look just like "a decent ride". For me the biggest challenge will be all the context of the race : my first event after 4 months, in a complete unknown language, region of the world, climate and culture... Will I find easily my food and water? Will I be able to randomly camp anywhere on the side of the road like I'm used to do? Navigate and find my way in Chinese?! Yes it's defenitively gonna be a different challenge, and that's exciting!


So as I'm boarding to Taipei, the story is to be continued...
